hello
I’m Catherine, or Cat. I love nothing more than helping people create spaces that transform both how they feel and live - for the better! If something about your home isn’t working, you’re in the right place. I love problem solving and using a building’s greatest assets to really bring the best out of it.
Before becoming an Interior Designer I studied Fine Art at Edinburgh College of Art and have worked as a painter, painting portraits, watercolour commissions and more recently murals in residential settings and for weddings. You can see more of my work here.
I have a post graduate diploma in occupational therapy; following this, alongside painting, I worked for 10 years within community mental health for the NHS. This really sparked my interest in people, how they live in, and occupy spaces. After having my family and renovating two houses I realised where my true passion lies and now love working as an interior designer. We are spending more time in our homes than ever; home should be a solace from the outside world, a place which inspires you and welcomes others.
Sometimes it can be some very simple changes which are required to decor, furniture and layout, through to a complete overhaul; no two projects are the same and neither is more important than another. So don’t delay, I look forward to chatting with you.
my approach
At the beginning of the process I like to speak with you over the phone. This allows us to have a discussion about the scope of your project and what your expectations are. I can provide you with information about how I can help and what you should expect.
Following this call, if you choose to go ahead we will arrange a consultation in the project space, where possible. This lasts for around two hours and is a much more in depth discussion about the scope of the project. Before the consultation I will ask you to complete a questionnaire about key preferences which allows me to come to the consultation armed with a selection of appropriate colour swatches, samples and paint charts, just to get us started. Following our meeting I send a report detailing everything we have discussed, and key information for moving forward.
Sometimes clients only need the consultation to gain the confidence to move forward with their project themselves. Otherwise if you think we are a good fit and would like me to assist you with a full design I will follow up the consultation with an agreement to sign and a works and fee proposal which will detail everything you should expect from this point forward.
